First Hand Woman playwright, a.k.a. Sarah Michelle Brown here! 🙂
When I came up with the idea for this play in 2004, I knew in my heart, that this would be a work that would be in my life for a very very long time. Not just some one-off production.
And now, I am absolutely thrilled that these past 10 years of honing the script, brought the play to FringeNYC in New York City for our American debut, and have also triggered even more exciting goals for the work!
SO WHAT’S THIS SHOW ALL ABOUT?
In a nutshell? First Hand Woman is an exhilarating ride through the stages of loss and into redemption!
In a slightly larger nutshell? First Hand Woman is one woman’s story, told through five different parts of herself. These parts are the stages of loss. So the characters onstage are Denial, Bargaining, Anger, Depression and Acceptance. And trust me when I say that they are a boisterous, unapologetic, eclectic and lively bunch! As this tale is told, the women reluctantly unravel the secrets behind a love story gone bad, and discover that they are in way over their heads. This is a very powerful journey of the soul that guides the characters and the audience through heartache and healing. CAUTION: Show contains spontaneous simulated orgasms.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
Seeing First Hand Woman live, you can expect a roller coaster of a ride, filled with the highest highs and the lowest lows! It’s a real odyssey of an experience. Get ready to laugh as much as you will cry as these stages lead you through their powerful story.
Brown’s script is filled with emotional peaks and valleys. Just when things are getting a little too serious or sad she turns it around and makes us laugh despite ourselves.”
